My Research
Growing up in Southern California, I have first-hand observed devastating wildfires, severe droughts, and deadly winter storms. I also realized that rising tides were eroding the shore and shrinking the iconic spherical rock in the middle of my beloved Crescent Bay. These severe events caused me to question the underlying causes behind these experiences, allowing me to become aware of the dangers of climate change.
I started doing research on Physics-Informed Neural Networks. I was able to use this cutting-edge approach to mathematically simulate water-coast interactions. These shallow water equations provided hard data that allowed me to design a model, driven by machine learning, for predicting coastline areas most at risk of erosion. I was excited to present my findings at various conferences and learn from other researchers.
Looking to the future, I hope to delve deeper into the real-world potentialities of AI for building computational models that can help us solve some of the biggest environmental problems we face today.
