Our Projects
Our project aims to educate younger generations about sustainability through small steps, starting with the simple yet powerful act of upcycling. We raise awareness about the harm that denim manufacturing is doing to the environment while facilitating exciting activities involving this commonly used clothing material. We also encourage participants to explore continued action towards more sustainable purchasing practices.
Our workshops have proven their success through quantitative results including the number of workshops we’ve held, kits we’ve distributed, and jeans we’ve recycled. More importantly, our powerful qualitative impact is seen in the enthusiasm our students gain for the art of upcycling as well as the lasting lessons they take with them in fostering eco-conscious habits that make a real difference.
Upcycle & Create Workshop
We hold in-person workshops at children's learning centers and schools in Orange County, California. Our 45-minute workshop covers:
-
Climate change, the denim manufacturing process, fast fashion and the child labor practices associated with it, and why we should care about sustainability.
-
Distributing kits consisting of pre-cut upcycled denim scraps, thread, large-eye sewing needles, ribbons, safety pins, and elastic string.
-
Step-by-step demonstrations of how to craft items such as keychains, hair scrunchies, and small pouches.
During our activities, we supervise and educate students on how to handle all materials and tools safely to ensure an optimal learning environment.
Denim Drive
We hold denim drives at various schools and communities to support our upcycling workshop. Collected denim is cut into the sizes to be used for our activities. So far, through our efforts, we’ve collected and repurposed over 100 unwanted denim items.
